I went back to the stock ECU and pretzel intake manifold for the time being.
The car is still “fast” and no detonation at 11:1 on 90 octane. Stock piston profile.
I’ve been “living” The Soft Head in my mind and have sketched up some preliminary dome designs for the Saturn twin cam chamber. Rough calculations put the static CR at 14.8:1 if an 86mm bore (2.1L) is used.
I’m going to be persuing both a single throttle body and new quad body intake manifold design. I’ll run both against the stock setup and establish some hard results. I’m going back to the SDS on the “pretzel” this weekend…just had to chop up a ’93 harness to get the plugs I need to wire the SDS into my stock sensors without having to splice wires every time. Have a baseline established for the stock ECU with the shaith…and the SDS/coils are all that will change…so we’ll see what the difference in output is (arbitrarily). Baseline is 99.5 MPH up this “off road” hill. Slope is constant for about 1-1.5 miles. On the last build max speed was 96.0 MPH…with colder dryer air to boot. New baseline was taken in about 80 pct humidity with ambient temps at 39 F. I expect another 5 percent from the SDS which will translate to 2-3 MPH approximately.
School is standing squarely in the way of development right now…but it gives me some time to scrape together the new valvetrain and such…and time to figure out my new cam profile.
