Again…I’m far from the first to report this…but nonetheless…
Apple is rumored to have a online music subscription service ready to launch in a couple weeks. The service is said to be mac only and highly integrated with iTunes and iPod (obviously).
I’ve been hearing for some time now about a new fully cocoa version if iTunes (iTunes remains the last iapp to not be fully cocoa…and it shows in performance). I was stoked that a newer faster iTunes was in development…but to have this feature too…well that’s just cool :D
I wonder if it will use the new AAC Audio for better quality over lower bitrate streams. I also wonder about native .ogg support in the new version of iTunes (the current version decodes .ogg using quicktime).
All questions that will be answered soon from what it sounds like.
EDIT:
It just hit me that perhaps this music subscription could be part of .mac…I mean…at MWSF…Steve was talking about .mac and how they decided to charge because they wanted a higher level of service (and I don’t think their current level of service fully justifies the 100 dollars/year yet)…hmm.
Any opinions on this?
